Land. It’s personal.

I grew up on land that was deeded to my family soon after the Louisiana Purchase. Its soil was never productive as a traditional farm, but eventually much of it became timberland to which my family retained recreational and hunting rights. My parents and extended family still live there. Each year, daffodils bloom in my parents back yard, marking the outline of what was my great-great-grandparents home place over 100 years ago.

Similarly, my wife’s family has a farm in rural Pennsylvania. From the front deck of their modern glass cabin, you can see for miles across rolling hills of beautiful farmland. I swear that view is medicinal. And it is now preserved as both their farm and all of those surrounding it have been placed in a farm trust.

It is from my love of both of these places that the idea for Haven was born. When there are many things left uncertain in this world, I’ve increasingly found solace in the beauty and consistency of land, in its healing and calming properties, and its value as a family legacy.

I hope to share that solace with you.
